Pallet Projects

American Flag Pallet Sign

American Flag Pallet Sign

American Flag Pallet Sign

Use Caution!

The last few years I have become obsessed with pallet wood. To the point of every time I drive past the local feed store I check to see if there are any out FREE FOR THE TAKING! Sky’s the limit when it comes to what you can create with them. Signs, furniture, bookshelves and so on. Well today I will be showing you my American Flag Pallet Sign. With the help of my husband (he takes apart the pallets for me and then reconstructs them into what I’m wanting to make) I wouldn’t be able to create some of my pallet signs. So thank you love!!

Here’s what you’ll need:

-Pallet wood {cut to desired length} {number of pieces of pallet wood is also dependent on how big you want your sign, I used three shorter pieces for mine}

-6 Screws {1-1 1/2  inches long}

-Sandpaper {fine grit}

-Red, White and Blue Paint

-Pencil

-Star Stencil {I trace one out on paper, cut it out and use it for my stars}

-Paintbrush

-Paint Pen {color of choice, here I used gold. It shows up good against red and white}

-Drill

-Black Eye Shadow

Now put it all together:

-If you haven’t pulled your pallet pieces off you’ll need to do so. My husband does this step for me. I do not have to a tutorial for this. Check out my Pallet Project board on Pinterest for tutorials I have found on how to disassemble a pallet at www.pinterest.com/cherryontopcraf

-Now decide which side of each pallet piece you want to be the front of the sign {I feel like is always one side that is prettier lol} I always mark with a pencil the letter B on the side that will be the back of the sign too.

Be careful on this next step!

-Take a small scrap of pallet and cut with a saw down the middle. These two pieces will attach to the back side of your sign. My husband uses a saw for this step!

-Take your pieces that you just cut and lay them on the ground, then lay your pallet boards on top of them. Adjust the two back pieces to where they are close to ends of your sign.

-Add your screws. I put 3 on each side {1 in each pallet board} where they screw into the 2 back pieces.

Let’s keep going!

-Now that your sign is assembled it’s time to paint our sign.

-I take a pencil and draw my lines before I paint.

-Paint your and let it dry.

-Once your sign has dried take your star stencil and trace a few stars on the blue part. Paint your stars white now.

-While your stars are drying carefully add a quote if you would like.

LET DRY 24 HOURS!

-Your sign should be completely dry by now, so grab your sandpaper and start sanding. This make the sign look distressed or weathered to me {which I love}.

-Lastly, take black eye shadow and rub your finger in it and rub where all the colors touch as well as the top and bottom of your sign. I know, I know black eye shadow? It adds to the rusticness {is that a word?}. I use this technique when I scrapbook to. I promise you’ll love it!

Be prepared to create more!

Once friends and family see your awesome American Flag Pallet Sign they are going to want one of their own. Be prepared to create more. I’ve made 3 so far!

Have a fun and safe 4th of July!
